The former president and vice-president have left the best known animal association in Vitoria-Gasteiz, together with about ten members. Although there has been this separation, both parties emphasize that their objective is the same: to seek the welfare of all homeless animals. Only, in the words of Betilagun, some «discrepancies» and «ways of seeing things» have caused the split.

In total there were 7 volunteers affected by these alleged sexual abuses, in addition to two others who already had a restraining order against the accused officer. Coincidentally, the accused went to prison for a sexual assault against another person in July, also an Apasos volunteer, shortly after the kennel’s accusations came to light.

Initially, Apasos wanted to resolve the investigation through administrative channels. Once the case came to light, the current members of Betilagun were in favor of also imposing the complaint through legal channels, which in the end was done.

These arrive in different states of health, most of them require veterinary care, and usually show poor sanitary conditions, have been victims of abuse, which causes them insecurity fears, or have been victims of roadkill, with fractures, injuries, etc..

Apasos volunteers transfer them to veterinary clinics to be treated, we look for a temporary shelter for them to recover and once they are recovered we help them find a new home.

This among many other tasks that we volunteers do, such as the socialization of the animals, for this we take them out of the enclosed area where they are daily so that they can socialize with people and other animals, so they are not isolated all day, to keep a hygienic-sanitary control over them, and anything else they may need.

Therefore, we demand the restoration of the Agreement and that APASOS can continue doing the work it was developing, essential for animal welfare in the kennel, and we ask for your help to achieve it. We cannot allow the City Council of Vitoria to punish the victims of gender violence or that a Protocol of Gender Violence remains a dead letter.

The City Council of Vitoria has once again given its opinion on the controversy with the Apasos Association about the management of animals in the city. A dispute that has a background of alleged sexual abuse and a lack of empathy of the Consistory with the alleged victims.

In his reflections in the Buzón, he is already looking for volunteers to replace those of Apasos, which shows that external participation in the care of animals is necessary. Another thing is that the City Council does not like the people who have been doing it until now:

The working staff of the CPA are experienced and qualified personnel both for the capture, handling, care and sanitary treatment of the animals (a 24-hour veterinary care service is available), with special sensitivity to the condition of the animals to improve their welfare. Their welfare needs are attended to on a daily basis: feeding, cleaning of the facilities, health and socialization needs.

The City Council of Vitoria-Gasteiz, in the development of its competences on promotion, defense, protection and animal welfare, collaborates with different animal protection associations of the municipality.
