In the case of Cadiz, at least two names linked to the Asturian community will be removed from the street map: the Paseo del Príncipe de Asturias and the Avenida Fernández Ladreda.

In a press release, the municipal government team explained that it had agreed with the PSOE to bring a joint proposal to the plenary session of the City Council of Cadiz for the modification of 29 names of streets, squares, avenues and traffic circles «to remove names related to the coup d’état of 1936».

The changes have served to increase the female presence in the nomenclature of the city, to remember popular neighbors and to «recognize the struggle of metal workers», changing the name of the street Ramon Franco, brother of the dictator, by the Proletariat of Metal.

The socialist municipal group in the City Council of Cadiz has reached an agreement after the celebration of the Nomenclature Commission to comply with the Law of Democratic Memory by which the street directory of the city will be modified and the presence of women in it will be increased. This agreement will culminate with the presentation of a joint amendment to modify the location of the new names and will be approved in the plenary session next Friday, November 26.

During the course of the commission, from the PSOE have urged the government team to comply with the plenary agreement of October 2020 in which the socialists proposed the drafting of a Nomenclator Ordinance for the naming and labeling of roads, urban spaces, as well as buildings, spaces and monuments of municipal ownership. «The ordinance remains a priority and should be ready as soon as possible,» the socialists have insisted.

From this Friday, to move around the city of Cadiz and go from one destination to another will have to pull a sketch to know the exact name of the street. The mayor of the capital of Cadiz, José María González, Kichi, is promoting, with the support of the PSOE, a revolution in the street map that this Friday will be voted in the plenary session of the City Council. It affects about thirty roads, traffic circles and promenades.

The plan of the government team of Adelante Cadiz, led by Kichi, and the Socialists is to remove at a stroke the Paseo Príncipe de Asturias, put new names, such as the street Proletariado del Metal, and eliminate all roads with more or less direct links to the Franco dictatorship and the coup of 1936.

The changes have been agreed by Adelante Cadiz and the PSOE, which will bring a joint proposal to the plenary session this Friday. The 13 councilors of the government team and the five socialists add up to 18 of the 27 that make up the Cadiz Consistory, a majority more than enough for the revolution of the street map to go ahead. The PP has six councilors; Cs, with 2; and there is a non-attached councilor who previously belonged to the orange formation.
